Befriending yourself and your own experience.
Welcome
I am Lauren Whitelaw, PsyD, a Clinical Psychologist in private practice in Portland, Oregon. I specialize in behavioural science, sexual health, mindfulness, and compassionate meditation.
With my training from around the world, I create unique clinical formulations to aid clients with their individual growth, relationships, and sex lives. I see collaborative partnership, increasing emotion regulation, and determining where clients want to go as good ingredients for effective treatment.
The most important part of my approach is creating an effective working partnership with you, so that you can get the most out of therapy.
Integrated, compassionate psychotherapy for individuals and relationships.
Racing thoughts?
Disconnection from self, body, and other people?
Excessive worrying and unable to relax?
Having difficulty participating in your life with joy and curiosity?
Rehearsing old, painful narratives?
Are your relationships a source of stress and dissatisfaction?
Is your sex life not what you’d hoped for?
Ongoing distress in our lives can bring us to therapy which, with good work, can lead us to psychological integration and flexibility. Therapy can be extremely creative and rewarding. Many people find this path to be an exciting and generative one. It can even be fun at times.
I use cognitive-behavioural and compassion-focused therapies to help clients with stress, mental and sexual health, emotion regulation, and their intimate relationships with themselves and others. I have a deep belief in the healing effects of fuller connection with our true selves and the ease and intentionality that can then grow in daily life.
Learn a more joyful life rhythm and enrich your skills at living, working, and loving.
Sex Therapy
Talking about our sexual lives in therapy can be challenging. It often leads to more vibrancy and integration in our experiences of sensuality, aliveness, eroticism, and intimacy both as individuals and in partnerships. learn more →
Individual & Couples Therapy
I practice therapy with individuals and couples. Broadly speaking, typical mental health goals often include emotion regulation and stress reduction as well as more value-based and relational aspects of growth. learn more →
From practicing in New York hospitals, to the NHS and Oxford in the UK, I have a wide repertoire to meet individuals and couples where they are.
As a licensed clinical psychologist and certified sex therapist, I have experience and training focused on assessing and treating a complex range of mental health issues and symptoms. What sets me apart and allows me to meet my diverse clients’ needs is the varied nature of the treatment approaches I have learned.
